Lighting
Lighting Installation in Duvall
Four months of the year it is dark before dinner. Lighting here is not decoration.
Light planned in layers, not just added
A single bright fixture in the middle of a ceiling is the default, and it is the reason a lot of rooms feel like an office in January. Layering fixes it: general light for the room, task light where you actually work, and something low and warm for the evening — each on its own switch or dimmer. We plan it with you room by room. Where the recessed cans want to be relative to the cabinets, whether the island needs pendants or a different ceiling run, how the exterior lighting makes a long gravel drive usable in December without lighting the whole valley.
What the job includes
A room-by-room plan
Where fixtures go, what each layer does, and what gets switched from where. Agreed before anything is cut.
Recessed, under-cabinet and pendant work
New positions cut and run, existing ones relocated, and cabinet lighting wired so the driver is reachable later.
Dimming that actually works
Dimmer and lamp matched deliberately. Most flicker and buzz complaints come from a mismatch nobody checked.
Exterior and approach lighting
Entries, steps, and the drive, on switching or controls that suit how you come and go.
Common lighting jobs here
A kitchen that is dark where you chop
Almost always a cabinet shadow problem rather than a brightness problem. Under-cabinet light solves it.
Flickering or buzzing dimmers
Usually the dimmer and the lamp disagreeing. Often cheap to put right once diagnosed.
A gravel drive you cannot see in winter
Exterior lighting planned around how you arrive makes more difference here than almost anything indoors.
Rooms with one fixture and one switch
The most common layout we are asked to improve, and the one where layering changes the most.
How the work runs
Walk the rooms
We look at how you use the space and when, then propose layers rather than fixtures.
Agree the plan
Positions marked, switching agreed, and the fixture choices narrowed before any cutting.
Install
Runs made, fixtures set, dimming matched and tested at the levels you will actually use.
Adjust
We come back to aim, balance and tweak once you have lived with it a few evenings.
Questions about this work
Can you add recessed lights without tearing the ceiling apart?
In most cases yes. Access from above or careful cutting from below handles the majority of ceilings. Where a joist or a duct is in the way we will tell you before we cut, and usually propose a position a few inches over.
Why do my dimmers buzz?
Nearly always a mismatch between the dimmer and the lamps. Swapping to a compatible pairing is a cheap fix and we can usually diagnose it on sight.
Is it worth changing everything to LED?
Generally yes for running cost and lamp life, but quality varies enormously and the cheap end flickers. We will tell you where it is worth spending and where it is not.
