Electrician Duvall

Urgent faults

Emergency Electrical Service in Duvall

Some faults can wait for a convenient appointment. These are the ones that cannot.

What counts as urgent, and what to do first

If you can smell burning plastic, see scorching around a device, hear buzzing from the panel, or feel heat through a cover plate, switch that circuit off at the breaker and call. Those four things are the ones we move other work for. We take urgent calls during our working hours and give them priority over scheduled jobs. We would rather tell you honestly that we can be there this afternoon than promise a time we cannot keep — and if what you are describing genuinely cannot wait for us, we will say so on the phone and tell you who to call instead.

What happens when you call

Triage on the phone

A few questions decide whether this is switch-it-off-and-call-us or something you can safely leave until a scheduled visit.

Priority over scheduled work

Genuine faults go to the front of the queue within our working hours. Planned jobs get moved, and those customers get told why.

Make safe first, then diagnose

The immediate hazard is isolated before anything else. Only then do we work out what caused it.

A clear answer before repair

You find out what failed and what the repair involves before we start billing hours against it.

Switch it off and call

A burning or hot-plastic smell

The most serious thing on this list. Isolate the circuit if you can identify it, and do not wait to see whether it passes.

Scorch marks or discolouration on a device

Heat has already built up at a connection. The outlet or switch is a symptom, not the whole story.

Buzzing, crackling or heat at the panel

A loose connection at the panel can escalate. This is not a wait-and-see fault.

A breaker that will not reset

It is doing its job. Forcing it repeatedly is how a fault becomes a fire.

How the work runs

01

Call and describe it

Plain words are fine. We will ask the questions that matter.

02

Isolate

We will tell you what to switch off and what not to touch while we are on our way.

03

Make safe on arrival

The hazard is dealt with before anything else happens.

04

Diagnose and repair

Cause found, repair explained and priced, then carried out.

Questions about this work

Do you take calls outside your working hours?

Our working hours are listed on the contact page, and that is when we can get a van to you. If something is actively dangerous outside those hours, switch the circuit off at the panel, and if there is smoke or fire call the fire service rather than an electrician.

The power is off in one room only. Is that an emergency?

Usually not, provided nothing smells hot and nothing is scorched. It is often a tripped device or a failed connection, and it can wait for a normal appointment. Call and describe it and we will tell you which it is.

What if the whole house is out?

Check whether your neighbours are out too. If the street is dark it is the utility, not your wiring, and they will be quicker than we will. If it is only your house, call us.

Not sure how urgent it is?

Describe it on the phone. Working out whether this needs us today costs nothing.
